The Online Dialogue on Conflict/Situation Assessment (2003-2004)
CONCUR, working with Raab Associates and the USIECR, created a project to advance thinking in both the use of conflict/situation assessments and the applicability of online dialogue tools. The Online Dialogue on Conflict/Situation Assessment was supported by the Hewlett Foundation, US EPA, and DOI, and took place in the first half of 2003. The first round of discussions was held March 17-April 9; the second round took place June 2-20. The Dialogue included facilitated online discussions, occasional online polls, and three live online chat sessions with highly experienced practitioners (Gail Bingham, Gerald Cormick, and Michael Harty). The Dialogue also provided an opportunity for participants to become familiar with some of the latest technology and tools available for conducting online discussions.
Results from Round I were presented at the Association of Conflict Resolution’s Environmental and Public Policy Section conference in Washington, D.C. in April, 2003. The presentation from that meeting can be downloaded at www.adrforums.com/presentation.htm. After the conclusion of Round II, results from both Rounds were presented at the 2003 Association for Conflict Resolution Conference in Orlando, Florida on October 17, 2003. The PowerPoint presentation from that meeting can be downloaded at www.adrforums.com/finalreal.ppt.
The Final Report of the Online Dialogue on Conflict/Situation Assessment (May 2004) can be downloaded at: http://www.ecr.gov/s_publications.htm#onlinedia.
